And get this, fact fans: American girls are so infatuated with the baby-faced fivesome - Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles - that an estimated 10,000 hundred turned up to see the boys' first live perfomance on US TV. Imagine the screams when their first US tour kicks off in the summer!
Just to put the One Direction success story into context, the Spice Girls' debut, Spice, took 14 weeks to climb its way to the top spot in 1997. "It's beyond a dream come true", golden boy Harry said of their achievement last week.
We're over the moon that a UK band has managed to conquer the States and succeed where many before them - including Take That - have failed. So it's no surprise that celebrities have been falling over themselves to congratulate the lads. Harry's ex, Caroline Flack, kick-started the celebrations on Twitter, while Louis said that Simon Cowell is "too excited to sleep".
